Vibrant & Energetic Free-form Art is Featured
for the Month of July at Haystack Gallery

CANNON BEACH , OREGON – For the past 33 years, Haystack Gallery has been known mostly for its artists working in the more “traditional or representational styles”. Several years ago we added new artists in the gallery to include those who work in a brighter, colorful free-form or abstract style.

In July we will have an exhibition devoted entirely to our artists on the fringe. We start with Cubist & Pop Artist, Sonya Paz from California exhibiting her colorful and fanciful originals, prints and watches. From our neighbor to the north, we have bright, large, original oil abstract landscapes by Canadian artist Brooke Anderson. To round out the mix, local artist Jeni Trinity Lee shows her small original acrylics of birds on a wire painted in an almost neon palette.

S. Brooke Anderson - Anderson was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and raised in the southern California desert.

Both of these very different landscapes—the rain forest and the desert—find expression in her work today. Brooke began painting at the age of six with her mother, also an artist, who inspired her love of shape and color.

After returning to Canada to study Fine Arts, Brooke worked for a major airline carrier enabling her to travel widely throughout the world pursuing her interest in art, literature and painting. The subtle beauty of Japanese art enticed Brooke to immerse herself in Japanese culture, and study shodo (Japanese calligraphy) for several years. These cultural influences emerge in her work on many different levels.

Sonya Paz – Sonya has a passion for Modern Art, Pop Art, Cubism, Modernism and Surrealism. These combined influences can be seen in much of her work, where traditional styles compete with energetic pop art images of the past 25 years.

Her work is engaging yet simple, motivating and energized, with colors that pull you in like a vortex. Bold shapes and vibrant colors leap off her canvases, while her images explode in an energetic and wildly whimsical style.

Sonya's paintings and watches with vivid images are a reflection of her California roots and her active lifestyle.
Her positive, creative attitude and passionate expression represent an optimistic view of the world. Her works are inspired by the Cubist movement as well as from American Pop Art and seasoned by traveling the world to study art and its history.

Jeni Trinity Lee – When artist Jeni Trinity Lee is not making art in her backyard studio, she is often found traveling and exploring, collecting inspirations for her paintings and collages. After receiving her degree in painting, Jeni began showing her work professionally and quickly found her work in many private and corporate collections throughout the Northwest including local Legacy Hospitals and award winning boutique hotels in Portland and Seattle. She has an eclectic collection of prints published through Gango Editions where her work receives national and worldwide exposure. Due to the popularity and demand of her designs, Jeni was featured as one of the “Top Ten Artists to Watch in 2010” in Décor Magazine. She has attended renowned artist residencies and workshops in the unique landscapes of New Mexico, Vermont, Central Oregon and the Oregon coast. Her colorful bird paintings were originally inspired by the little bird who would visit her on the telephone line outside the window of her first art studio in Portland.
