CANNON BEACH, OREGON – Imagine a place where the mists and storms of the coast swirl around a magical 'mountain of a Haystack' rising from the sea, and from every hearth and home emerges writers, singers, composers, painters and sculptors. That is what happens each November in Cannon Beach. These entire forces join together to transform your experience into a festival of creativity filled with music, theater, poetry and art. This is The Stormy Weather Arts Festival.

Our Friday night kick-off event features Bart DeGraaf, one of our new artists. During our opening reception starting at 4pm, Bart will be doing a painting performance.

Saturday, Nov 6,inside warm and dry Michael David Sorensen will be creating new original watercolors. Haystack Gallery is also bringing in special for the Stormy Weather Arts Festival a shipment from the Kibbutz Revadim in Israel of hand-crafted silver jewelry with inlaid 2,000 year old Roman Glass. This unique jewelry will be on display with our other Israeli jewelry starting on Saturday. Enjoy a drink and some nibbles with our artists Saturday at a reception beginning at 5pm.

Bart DeGraaf - Born in Chicago Bart was influenced by his many visits to the Chicago Art Museum and ultimately received his BFA in Denver, CO. Several years ago he fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and moved to Portland.

DeGraaf has two very distinct styles, one is his semi- abstract landscapes and the other style which we carry is a more humorous glimpse into his inner psyche - frogs and their favorite libations.

His style is rich with color and texture, movement and design which releases a sense of emotion for the viewer and offers a connection and allows you to enter his world for a brief moment in time. They are a piece of who Bart is…very interesting.

Roman Glass Jewelry - This special collection is the work of talented designers of the Kibbutz Revadim and inspired by the beautiful surroundings and culture of Israel. Their jewelry is inlaid with a fragment of ancient glass, discovered in an archaeological excavation in the Holy Land. The patina was created by chemical interaction with mineral-rich soil over the course of 2000 years.

Michael Sorensen who has been painting from an early age, graduated from Clark College in 2001. His loose brush strokes let the colors flow from one tonality to another. Bold, vibrant colors play within the landscapes allowing the viewer to step into a time of wonder and beauty. His work is inspired by his love of nature and it's intertwining movement, colors and textures.

Saturday and Sunday musicians and composers will delight listeners on the streets, in galleries, at the restaurants, and in concert in the Coaster Theatre Playhouse. From Bluegrass to classical piano, or rock, if you like any kind of music you are liable to find it here.
